Litigation Legal Assistant – Part Time

Legal Assistant required to support busy litigation lawyer in downtown Burlington. Marlon M. Roefe is seeking a professional individual able to manage tight deadlines with excellent attention to detail and strong customer service skills. This position is part time 3-4 days per week, in the event you are seeking full-time employment, please do not respond to this ad. The successful candidate must be an ambitious individual who is a fast learner and must be flexible with hours.

Duties Include: general reception duties including answering phones, processing incoming mail, deliveries and emails, managing office generally, communicating with clients, counsel, process servers, experts and court staff over the phone and in writing, scheduling meetings, booking facilities, managing all office payables and tracking monthly expenses, ordering office supplies, processing and organizing client documents, reviewing and proof reading correspondence and court documents, drafting minor court documents based on precedents provided, opening client files electronically, managing filing system within the office, attending client meetings to take notes, filing Court documents online with Lawyer supervision, and completing annual year-end bookkeeping. Also responsible for sole office management during vacations and other duties as assigned.


Post secondary degree or certificate required. Legal Assistant or Law Clerk experience in litigation considered an asset as is experience in office administration. Ability to work in person downtown Burlington with the option for future remote work depending on circumstances. Working hours are Tuesday (or Wednesday) to Friday 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. or as required.

The ideal candidate must have a strong work ethic, excellent attention to detail, the ability to prioritize multiple time sensitive deadlines, strong keyboarding and proof readings skills, excellent organization skills, and the ability to manage technical issues and conduct virtual meetings. Experience using Microsoft Office (outlook, word, excel) and Zoom are required. Must be able to assemble large documents in Adobe with tabs, bookmarks and text recognition. Experience using PCLaw and CanLII considered an asset. Ability to conduct oneself in a professional and confidential manner is a must. Ability to become Commissioner of Oaths required.

This position provides a competitive hourly rate depending on experience. Must have a valid drivers license and own vehicle to attend office and off-site meetings as required.
